FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Virtual Football League (VFL)?
The VFL is a simulated football league that uses EA Sports College Football 26 as its engine. It's not affiliated with EA — instead, it creates an original competitive universe with custom teams, branding, and a content-first experience powered by players, streamers, and creators.
Do I actually own a team in the video game?
No. Owners and Renters are claiming control of a custom team inside the VFL, not purchasing rights to anything in the EA game. The VFL uses the game as a simulation tool, just like streamers use it for content. Revenue and value come from the league experience and audience, not from the game itself.
What are the different ways to participate?
You can join the VFL in one of three main ways:
- Free Player – Compete in lower divisions. Climb the ranks through performance.
- Renter – $100/season. Run a team in the Premier Division with limited branding rights.
- Owner – $10,000 lifetime. Full control of a team with revenue sharing and voting rights.
There’s also a special Creator Lease-to-Own program available by invite.
Can I get promoted to the Premier Division as a Free Player?
Yes. The league runs promotion and relegation after every season. High-performing Free Players can move up to the Premier Division and even earn rental or ownership offers.
Can I earn revenue?
Only Owners earn revenue from league-wide income sources (merch, sponsorships, media deals). However, Renters and Free Players can build personal audience monetization through streaming, YouTube, and TikTok content.
What happens if I want to stop playing?
- Owners: You can sell your team at any time.
- Renters: Your access expires after the season unless renewed.
- Free Players: Simply stop playing — no commitment required.
What platforms is the league on?
EA College Football 26 supports both PlayStation and Xbox. The VFL supports cross-platform participation as long as players can compete fairly and consistently.
When are league games played?
The league advances 3 times per week: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 11:59 PM PST. Players must complete games before each deadline or risk forfeit.
Can I join if I’m not a content creator?
Absolutely. Many Owners and Players simply love football and strategy. Content helps your brand grow, but it’s not required unless applying for the Creator Lease program.
What is the Lease-to-Own option?
Select creators with a proven audience may be invited to run a team for free for one year (5 seasons). If they hit content/viewership milestones, they can earn discounts or full ownership. Apply here.
